And so my 1st FOB comes to an end…and what better way to end but on top. This yellow can sat quietly in the corner of my frig for over 30 days. Nobody puts SoS in the corner!! This is your 2017 FOB winner. Really nice fruit forward flavor with just the right blend of hopiness. Phil handed me this case in his driveway a month ago, shook my hand, looked me in the eye and said, "This case of beer will change the way you drink beer forever!" Indeed, Phil you were right. Thank you to you and the FOB team for curating a life changing case of beer. One fellow FOBer said to me upon accepting entrance into FOB, "With great power comes great responsibility." I followed the rules of FOB, did not bat out of order and stayed true to the charter; pour it, drink it, score it…and try to write something about it along the way. I am already looking forward to next year…Cheers! —by Daniel C

Not mind blowing. A well balanced very tasty IPA with low ABV. This could be a nice addition to the summer beer rotation if we could get it.—by Daniel C

  • Crusher

A punch in the face from the Hop Monster. Crushed up front, but as the beer warmed up the flavor profile exploded from this DIPA. I had a tough time seeing all that debris floating in my brew. I did like the 9% ABV bonus buzz from this snow globe. It's is a tie between F-banger and this one in my Alchemist heavy weight bout. Is Heady the Rhonda Rousey of FOB? Wait…I don’t know why I am making an MMA refence as I have watched a total of ZERO MMA matches in my life. I was left reaching for some type of 'fight reference' seeing that Harding snatched up all the brilliant Rocky ones. PS: Yes, that is a post-apocalyptic snow globe in case you wondering. —by Daniel C

This creamy Belgium just may have risen to the top of my Belgium rotation. How have I never had this?!? I can see how it was a previous winner. Nice balance and color. Delicious...I need another.—by Daniel C

  • Focal Banger

The Vermont's are coming the Vermont's are coming!!! As I journey through the Green State and roll into Week 4 the bar has been raised. As too are my expectations. All this Alchemist hype is getting a little too much for me. And so I move onto the F-Banger toasting with my follow FOBers Doyle and Harding. Who said you can't have a Monday afternoon FOB Happy Hour? I have to say the F-Banger has knocked Heady off the mantel with Crusher in the wings. Who will be left standing?!? Is the overall winner sitting quietly in the back corner of my frig??? —by Daniel C

The Wizard punched me in the face with bitter hopiness and just didn't let up 14 ounces later. Love the can design, just not what's inside. —by Daniel C

  • Rodenbach Grand Cru

Sours…again, not my thing. Quite frankly a category I just have no interest in embracing. That said, as a cycling fan I am fond of Flanders and had an open mind to this Red beer. Not bad. FOB is about trying new and different things, experiencing new and different categories. Phil, you have delivered for me. —by Daniel C

A Bavarian style beer would be the last beer I would reach for…especially in the dead of winter. But when Mother Nature delivers a 65 degree day in February this felt like the right beer to go to. I really am not a fan at all of this category but I have to say this was pleasantly very good…and refreshing. This is one I may go back to come summer time. —by Daniel C

  • Samiclaus 2015

This may be the "rarest beer in the world" but this malt liquor caramel ABV bomb was too much for me. Interesting flavor but it taste more like a port or dessert wine then a beer. I drank this before Phil's tasting notes came out. If I had a do over I would have had this as a night cap. —by Daniel C

  • Chimay Blue

I don’t have Monks Café to thank for 1st introducing me to Chimay Blue. Frankly I don’t remember who did, but I should because every time I drink this beer is does not disappoint. This beer introduced me to Belgium beer and with each sip I thank Father Theodore and all of those Trappist Monks. —by Daniel C

  • Heady Topper

My 3rd can of Heady and I have to say the 3rd time is not a charm. Certainly good, but not life changing like everyone raves about. Don't get me wrong, this is very good beer but I think their marketing coupled with their supply and demand mystic is what makes this one so highly rated imo. I am hopeful their other 2 entries will give this flagship a run for its money. —by Daniel C

  • Bell's Hopslam

I have always been a fan Bells 2 Hearted Ale. This is my 1st Hopslam and it didn't disappoint. Love the touch of honey to take the edge off the bitterness. And as one who doesn't like to drink too many beers in one sitting I love the 10%ABV...bonus...I'll take 2 please. I will follow up with Heady tonight to go head 2 head. I know we have a strong Vermont lineup coming up...but I wont be surprised if this is a top 5 finisher. A very strong entry. —by Daniel C

  • Xocoveza

My interest and fondness for Stouts continues to grow. As a 1st year FOB'er I now realize I should have rated Sunday AM higher...perhaps a 9. I paired this with some beef tacos which felt right. I enjoyed the spice mocha combination...did I just say that out loud?? I wouldn't buy a case of this, but may make a tradition of having one of these during the holidays.—by Daniel C

  • MadTree Chocolate Raspberry

A thin but interesting flavored stout. The cacao and raspberry is refreshing. That said, in 2 weeks I have become a bourbon coffee flavored stout lover thanks to Sunday Morning and FOB. Not sure I would get this again but glad to have tired it. —by Daniel C

  • Enjoy By 2.15 Coffee Chocolate

Flirtatiously FRESH indeed. Possibly the sleeping giant in the case. The coffee and chocolate are subtle but bringing these 2 flavors into an IPA is Weird Science at it's best. Happy Valentines to me.—by Daniel C

  • La Trappe Quad

Belgium is the style that I gravitate to and love. But after this FOB experience that all might change. Has a nice nose and continued to get better as it settled closer to room temp. Like sucking on a butterscotch and then shoving a banana in your mouth...creamy goodness. —by Daniel C

  • Big Black Voodoo Daddy

I am starting to really grow to like these high ABV stouts. Especially when you don't get hit over the head with the booze...on the flavor that is. The 12% certainly put me where I wanted to be. I felt like the chocolate was missing a bit. It did get better and better at room temp. This is one I would go back to for sure.—by Daniel C

  • Sunday Morning Stout

Smooth drinking Super Bowl Sunday early kick off beer. As a relative newbie to the beer drinking world my Stout exposure is limited…but I can see this category rising to the top of my list. I do enjoy an occasional Ballast Point Victory at Sea. I am missing the coffee in this one though. Perhaps the 1 year aging had an impact. Would be interesting to compare it side by side with a fresh one. PS: It sounds like I need to get me some KBS. Yes….I am probably one of the few on this whole list who has NEVER had a KBS. Doyle, when am I coming over to add KBS to our FOB month of February??! —by Daniel C
