  • Ommegang Rosetta

Ohhhhh...me...gang...my darling...I've hungered for your touch... Rosetta is that girl you knew in high school and you look back now and realize how hot she is. Not sour as sours go, not so "elegant" as the label says, more tart than sweet, and just a great beer you love to drink down pleasurably easy. Not that I'm thinking of anyone in particular. ;)—by Dave "SD" Cook

Shared this with a buddy of mine and we totally dug it. When you begin to feel that you have to share awesomeness with buddies, it gets complicated. Sometimes I feel selfish when I slug down a 16oz'er of something I know my friends can't get, and then I get really guilty when I intake the contents of a hard-to-find bomber. Wait, no I don't. Things I've never said about beer: "It's complicated."—by Dave "SD" Cook

  • Rodenbach Grand Cru

First, Rodenbach Grand Cru. A grand crue indeed! I bought two more of these just based on the one I had from the FOB case and freaking loved them. Big, bold, tart, sour, Roady roady! Yum. Even good with a post-concert pizza, believe it or not. Next, I think the overall quality of brews in this year's case has been totally awesome. It's been great to revisit some brews I haven't had in quite a while, and I was stoked to try the new stuff! Mad props to Phil. You da man! —by Dave "SD" Cook

I remember enjoying Orval a lot more in the past. Maybe should revisit it (Like I did for La T Quad). But for now, I'll let it ride and just say it had a weird chalky aftertaste, although on the whole it was pfg. —by Dave "SD" Cook

  • Sunday Morning Stout

I want so badly to give this a higher score. Seriously. Welcome to Cawfee Tawlk. I simply adore SMS. I'm verklempt! It's a KBS Killah! Tawlk amongst yourselves! However, aging this doesn't seem to work for me. It's still damn freaking delicious; don't get me wrong. BUT, the coffee on a fresh one is stellar. So, I've done side-by-sides before, you know, for QC (see pic for the latest). The coffee drops off and one can begin to detect the cardboardyness of aging. Is it smoother? Yes. Is it tastier? I'd argue no. But given one or two of these, I won't argue anything. SO... My 8 stands for an aged SMS, but I'd give a 2017 a 10 EASY. Holy crap. Next time I'll write a book. —by Dave "SD" Cook

  • La Trappe Quad

Is it cheating if I bought three more of these at various times during the month to figure this out right? 4 for the Quad. I guess that's appropriate. The first one I didn't dig, the second, I did. The third, well, I guess I had too many before. Finally, the 4th I enjoyed during this unseasonably kinda warm weather doing some light yard work. Bingo. —by Dave "SD" Cook

Aged beautifully. Santa wishes he'd come down the chimney and find this (along with a sammich). At a very deceptive 14%, he'd probably only make it down about 3 chimneys, say F it and wind up on someone's couch. I loved this one. —by Dave "SD" Cook

"Temple Tom" Wolfe shared his with me at Casa de Ron Mexico (aka Pat Cook)on Saturday night. What a great eve with friends and fellow FOB'ers! (and thanks for the t-shirt, Tom!) Having it again tonight, and I really kinda like the way the raspberry lingering in the background and how dry this finishes. Nice selection for the mix! —by Dave "SD" Cook

  • Bell's Hopslam

I had this on draft on January 23rd and absolutely loved it. A buddy of mine and I got a crowler and put in fresh habaneros pre-sealing. The result was scorchingly tremendous and the honey really stood out. I managed to score a few cans before the FOB as well. SO, upon trying the canned version, I was somewhat disappointed. It just didn't seem to deliver. I wonder why! I can see that some people loved this one and some very much didn't. I'm just going to go gut instinct on this particular experience with the canned version and not with the draft version I had. What the hell. —by Dave "SD" Cook

Potato chips. You can't have just one. After having the Weihenstephaner earlier, I thought I'd sit out back and sip another as the temperature dropped into the 50's. I looked over the selections in the fridge and Chimay seemed just right for the occasion. Out of order for sure, but when a beer calls your name, you answer. (Right?) —by Dave "SD" Cook

What's IPA? It is nor hops, nor malt, nor water, nor yeast, nor any other part belonging to a beer. O, be some other name! What's in a name? That which we call an IPA by any other name would taste as sweet. So 90 Minute IPA would, were it not 90 Minute IPA call'd, retain that dear perfection which it owes without that title. 90 Minute IPA, doff thy name; and for that name, which is no part of thee, take all myself.—by Dave "SD" Cook

The first one of these I had was on tap at the Friendly Greek in Lancaster for our now annual cookie/beer event, paired with a chocolate mint crinkle cookie. Excellent match! For FoB2017, I paired it up beside last year's version(Xocoveza for the Holidays & New Year), which has mellowed really nicely. I love that you can taste each "spice" through the drinking experience. Sure, Stone is a giant now, but dem bastards still got big balls. —by Dave "SD" Cook
