Best stout in the case!
8.0I like that it doesn't burn when it goes down like the stronger stouts.
8.06.5
8.0
Troegs does not excel in the stout department in my humble opinion.
6.07.0
Don't care for stouts or chocolate. Somehow I still enjoyed this beer. It was surprisingly good for a beer I had been trying to avoid.
7.57.0
7.5
I was disappointed. I love their Impending Descent, and hoped this would be a dialed down version of that, but it came off very thin.
4.0I'm not much of a stout guy but this one wasn't bad. It was pretty smooth
6.5Tasty... not my style but I'm trying to like this more than I do.
6.56.0
I would say as advertised. Troegs is legit. They cam even make a sweet chocolate beer decent.
7.07.0
Really solid. Not a lot to say here. All the things you would expect from a chocolate stout. A little bit of abv bump might suit this guy well
8.0Really solid. Not a lot to say here. All the things you would expect from a chocolate stout. A little bit of abv bump might suit this guy well
8.0Meh...OK
6.5Ok
6.0I was surprised it was just good not too chocolatey
8.5Nice pour. Rocky head. Milk chocolate nose and taste. Light body and carbonation. Pretty mild overall for a stout. A good Valentine's Day quaff for the ladies. I prefer bigger and bolder. Stouts. Stouts! Not ladies. No offense now. Just a personal preference.
6.0Nice pour. Rocky head. Milk chocolate nose and taste. Light body and carbonation. Pretty mild overall for a stout. A good Valentine's Day quaff for the ladies. I prefer bigger and bolder. Stouts. Stouts! Not ladies. No offense now. Just a personal preference. 6.0 rating
6.0Was underwhelmed by the Scratch beers in last year’s case, but this is an excellent effort by Troegs. Good balance with the chocolate, and not too bitter with the hops. Very drinkable
8.5Really impressed with the smoothness of this 12%.
9.0They print the scratch number on there with a typewriter. Somehow that makes me like it more. They are in such a rush to get this to me that Travis Troegs' wife has to type it out herself. But in reality it's an ok stout. Not very flavorful and kinda thin.
6.5I had 40 minutes to sit down, pour myself a beer and watch an episode of 24. Then this message appears. Is this the most irritating message ever?
6.55.0
I love Troegs beers but not this one. Not enough body for a stout. Expected much more from a great brewery
6.0Chocolate stout.
5.0Solid beer. Drinking out of a massive wine glass that I was given on my wedding day by my wife's former boss. Would have been nice if he took five minutes to realize that my middle name begins with a G and my last name begins with a K. Good thing the other one he gave us broke already. Cheers
8.0Thought this would be better given their Barrel Aged Impending Descent is one of my favorite Barrel Aged stouts. It came off a little thin to me.
6.5A little thin but got better as it warmed. Not bad just a little too sweet.
7.0Another win from Troegs. In a way I like that it's not a heavy, boozey syrup session. Great carbonation leaves you wanting another. Excellent flavor, body and finish.
7.0Good but unremarkable in every way.
7.0thought this tasted a little watered down
5.5Smooth & drinkable, with nice malt & chocolate taste and nice balance of sweet & bitter. An enjoyable chocolate stout that's just a little short on depth of flavor and boldness compared to some of the other superb stouts in our contest.
6.58.0
This tastes like what I imagine Big Black Voodoo Daddy would excrete after drinking a Big Black Voodoo Daddy... namely, not good...
4.0If the Weyerbacher, Voodoo, and Troegs were golfing together, the Weyerbacher pulled out a driver, swung from its heels and hit it 300 yards but was 20 feet in the deep rough. The Voodoo took its cigar out his mouth, placed it on the ground like a boss and cranked a driver. The Troegs grabbed a 5 iron and safely plopped it in the fairway, while the other two muttered "pussy" under their breath.
6.5Average stout. Nothing special
5.5Pretty middle of the road Chocolate Stout.
6.5Of the stouts I've had that are in this type of beer, this one is average. A bit too bitter and too much of a coffee aftertaste.
6.0Not bad. Almost as goo as Bill Amerine's home brew!
7.0This is delicious - tons of chocolate but not too sweet.
7.07.0
You are dessert-like-- Yet both light and deep at once-- I like the chocolate!
8.5Cheers everyone! What is beer but some mixture of water, yeast, hops, other roasted ingredients... but we do love it. Don't we? Haha! LOL! For real!
6.5Not impressed.
5.5first two mouthfuls had the taste of burnt malt husks. mellowed out though and was overall quite enjoyable.
7.5Delicious beer for a nice cheese pairing
8.0Now I know why I don't drink stouts more often. The chocolate doesn't make the "who put out there cigarette in my coffee" flavor any better.
5.0Last of week 1. Was holding out cause i don't like chocolate. Its not bad, definitely a bronze metal of the PA stouts.
6.5This stout is smooth as Teddy Pendergrass, and much less likely to get your girlfriend pregnant.
8.0This was ok. I enjoyed it when it was cold and I first opened it but liked it less and less as it got warmer, which isn't a good thing. Edit: Put the wrong photo in last time.
5.0This was ok. I enjoyed it when it was cold and I first opened it but liked it less and less as it got warmer, which isn't a good thing.
5.04.5
These guys live in Chocolate Town USA...but no chocolate made it into this brew....need to scratch this batch.
3.0This is an easy drinking, sweet chocolate stout. My wife would totally dig this.
7.0Troeg's gets the job done - enjoyed the beer! But I would not buy a six pack -a joy for a bar sip!
6.0Enjoyed my first chocolate stout! Hey bartender.....I'll have another! On to week 2!
8.0I know I can, I know I can I will try a serious review - this beer delivered a medium sized head which liberated a subtle chocolate/vanilla aroma. the alcohol is subtle and covered by the cocoa without it being overpowering, smooth feel in the middle, slightly bland finish
8.0Hmm #262 - they have done 262 of these Scratch things? What a great marketing strategy. Call it Scratch, give it a number that is different than the last - whalla instant curiosity and demand. Overall, it wasn't a bad stout...in fact I would open another if I had it right now, but I don't want to go find it to stock. However, if I wait long enough i will really want #270 - what ever that will be just because of the anticipation.
7.0Meh. Chocolate. Meh. Thin. Meh.
3.0While the flavor profile is unique and the taste on the back end rides a long time with the chocolate I have the same problem with this as I do with the Big Black Voodoo Daddy, it is very carbonated and thin. I like my stouts, well rarely, but I like them like I like my men dark, thick and tasty....sorry that is gross but hillarious.
6.06.0
Anything from the Scratch Series has been amazing, and this one did not disappoint. I'm not a big stout guy, but this was extremely drinkable. Phil, please keep the Scratch Series in the contest!!!
7.5Scratch this off my list. A bit flat for me.
5.0Little late to the party but here we go.
7.5Little late to the party but here we go.
7.5I love this brewery and this beer is pretty darn tasty.
8.0smooth creamy chocolatey depth. dark in color no head. finish is clean. nothing standout. definitely a scratch beer.
6.5Generally a HUGE fan of their Scratch Series, this was more of a "meh." might be just be all chocallated out? but 2nd the rec, this brewery is AWESOME, and a must-visit if ever in/near Hershey, menu is all locally sourced from regional farms, and they really take their time when....oh eff it, the beer selection is sick, just go!!!
7.0This is perfect on a cold winter night. I let it warm a bit and enjoyed the smoothness and the subtle chocolateyness. Followed it up with some Lindt chocolate. There goes the diet.
7.5The roasted malt flavors do not dance on the tongue like the best stouts. I can taste the chocolate, but otherwise kind of like John Prine's girl from Venus: "Pretty good, not bad, I can't complain But actually everything is just about the same."
7.5love the Scratch Beers from Troegs, This one was just OK. Seemed a little too carbonated for a Stout. Liked it better than Sunday Morning, not as good as BBVD.
7.0So I'll try to follow the rules. I'll drink a week 1 beer in week 1. Except I knocked out an SMS before this. And. It the FOB SMS but a 17. Anyways, I have to ask why scratch beers are included. That depends on your goal. Throw in a beer or two that most haven't had, then I'm glad to have tried it. But they're never gonna by to win or place. Like Nimble Giant is the best Tröegs beer I've had, and it was the evolution of a number of scratch beers. One of which was in the case last year.
7.0Remember that girl in High School that everyone chased after? This beer was her friend.
7.5Love the description, a stout with chocolate added. Can only imagine marketing nixed their first pass at it 'we call it Chocolate Stout, WTF do you think the ingredients are?' #wussification
7.5Love the description, a stout with chocolate added. Can only imagine marketing nixed their first pass at it 'we call it Chocolate Stout, WTF do you think the ingredients are?' #wussification
0.0Trong's is one of my favorite brewery's and this is a solid stout. However it is not as good as Sam smiths organic chocolate stout.
7.0I like my stouts on the chocolate side and not killer alcohol so I can function afterward or at least drive home. This is excellent. Great with a chocolate brownie. No nuts though. I don't know why you would put nuts in a perfectly good chocolate brownie anyway. This is my winner of the 3 PA stouts I was given
9.0I like my stouts on the chocolate side and not killer alcohol so I can function afterward or at least drive home. This is excellent. Great with a chocolate brownie. No nuts though. I don't know why you would put nuts in a perfectly good chocolate brownie anyway. This is my winner of the 3 PA stouts I was given
9.0Decent chocolate stout but left me anxiously awaiting the bolder chocolate stouts still left in my case.
6.5Shouldn't have had this right after Sunday Morning Stout!
6.0This had a bit of a chocolate taste to it but i tasted more of a coffee flavor…the kind of beer where if you are a stout fan you might drink this and be like “hmm…that is certainly a stout” and you would be correct, because it is.
6.0I love the scratch beers from Troegs. This one is just ok though. Saw other comments about being thin, and agree. Smells great, but lacked in flavor.
5.0It's a very sad day when a stout doesn't do it for me. Maybe it was me?? Maybe I wasn't ready... Or I just wasn't in the mood?!! I hear it happens to alot of people!
6.0Nothing special. Probably the first beer from Troegs that I didn't absolutely love.
6.0Winner!!!!
8.0Good stout, but my engine prefers a lot more octane!
5.5Stouts are hit or miss with me and this one is a hit. It's not overwhelming at all and very enjoyable.
8.5This beer brings me back to that time I toured the Willy Wonka Brewery, and a little man in green overalls, with a Donald Trump complexion poured me a beer. Or was it or a carbonated chocolate milk? Could have been either one, it all got hazy after the Fizzy Lifting Drink.
7.0After 3 1/2 hours of shoveling snow & getting paid time & 1/2 for 6, I think of a better way to relax then to sample an FOB brew. You make February it's own season. My second favorite season I might add. This beer would receive an 8 off the tap, But the bottle just is not the same today.
6.57.0
Glad to see Troegs in the contest again this year. Not their best entrant, however have and will continue to purchase this beer when available. There are much better stouts out there, but its good enough to represent PA in this contest.
6.0A solid stout. A little thin, but very drinkable and enjoyable.
7.0My 1st 2017 FOB beer Average stout I would drink it again. A little flat and I didn't get any taste of chocolate
5.0I was sort of wishing for a case of this after the first couple sips...imagine this on nitro???? like dessert!
9.0Generally a huge fan of Troegs - but also generally not a huge fan of putting chocolate (or coffee) in my beer. But I was excited to try this one... and with it coming from Hershey was anticipating a bit of a chocolate extravaganza in the stout. Not the case. Was pleasant but surprisingly mild. I suppose the advantage is that you can drink it when you aren't really in the mood for chocolate, or a stout, but that isn't really the point, now is it?
6.0I love the Troeg's scratch series. This was good, but didn't knock my socks off, so it gets a better than average 6
6.06.5
Best stout I ever had. No question.
8.0I normally prefer ales but this stout is very good
8.0This is a chocolate milk for adults or cool teenagers. Say hello to a 7% ABV Yoo-Hoo which is totally cool in my book. I'd probably make a milk shake with this.
6.5Talk about hitting the nail on the head... Troeg's is killin' it with this scratch series! Wicked pour into my LH Nitro glass. Solid pitch black (brown edging in light) with a tan creamy head. Kick ass aroma, but mostly flavor - some cocoa nibs/dark chocolate/vanilla. This is legit (make it a yearly seasonal!), poured at 37F, waiting for it to warm up, hoping to discover even more vanilla notes (yes, I did). Lacing is low, but there and constant throughout each sip. Mouthfeel is thin, which I expected more being 7.1%, but that makes it more drinkable. Overall, hell yeah! Job well done.
8.0Agreeing with all the "thin" comments. Definitely not the texture I want in a stout. Nothing really stood out or made me excited about this beer. Just OK. Wouldn't turn it down but wouldn't' buy it either. This is also my philosophy on drugs just in case anyone was wondering????????
5.55.0
I've had a few of the scratch series beer, this is my favorite by far, really liked the amount chocolate
7.5Very thin. High carbonation and not enough chocolate. Nice smell though. I was surprised that no taste or feel was left in my mouth after a sip.
3.0Was a bit skeptical after reading some reviews and squaring against SMS and BBVD, but I liked this heaps. A much lighter feel and flavor profile with this one, but an enjoyable one.
7.5Expectations were low after reading all of the "thin" comments. But I was pleasantly surprised. Smooth, enough chocolate, better as it warmed up a bit.
7.5Not bad, but not great. Good pour, but balance was off. Needed more robust mouth feel. Though, the chocolate undertones were nice.
7.5Solid, but not blown away.
8.0prefer my chocolate stouts to be less bitter
4.0Wow! Best Scratch series Troegs came out with yet. This stuff is like adult ice cream!
9.0Not always a fan of these scratch series but this one really hit the spot. I don’t put stoudts in the fridge anymore, I put them in the basement next to the red wine. This way, it’s already warmed up. I really have come to believe that is the way it should be with stoudts. The flavor of the chocolate was quite fantastic to me. May it have been a bit too strong a flavor tone? Well, possibly. This was my third stoudt of the night this past Sunday and jeepers… I was pretty rocked. So maybe I’d like it less going solo. But man did I dig this one. As an aside, everyone at work Monday said the 4th quarter of the Super Bowl was amazing… I’m pretty sure I blacked out... but it was worth it for FOB and these delicious stoudts.
8.0It's like 85% dark cocoa flavor that is creamy like melted chocolate w/ a roasty finish. Drinkable yet a burnt aftertaste that doesn't negatively affect beer. It's equally memorable with yards chocolate love stout id say.
7.0Not as "chocolate" as I thought it would be
6.0great aroma, mild start n real good finish, the best part is the after taste that lays in the back of you mouth.
8.5It's like 85% dark cocoa flavor that is creamy like melted chocolate w/ a roasty finish. Drinkable yet a burnt aftertaste that doesn't negatively affect beer. It's equally memorable with yards chocolate love stout id say.
7.07.0
Solid. I don't love stouts, so I don't give them as high of marks as I do the IPAs, but this is good, warm, malty sweetness, but not a lot of chocolate for me.
6.0Nugget nectar good, this bad...scored by a stout lover and a IPA hater
1.0Nice chocolate finish but maybe I'm too classic a guy but I think it has too much carbonation for a stout.
8.0Cracking open the Troegs Scratch Chocolate Stout I was nervous… nervous like Somerset riding out into the fields with Mills and John Doe. I read the reviews and they were all over the place…my wife asked me honestly, have you ever seen something like this before, and no…no I hadn’t. So it was quite surprising to me when I took a sip and realized this wasn’t the equivalent of walking into a room of a man who ate himself until he burst. No, this beer was quite the opposite. It tasted nice. The subtle chocolate hint of chocolate didn’t overpower; it complimented. The booziness let its presence known, but not in an overpowering, John-Doe-just-saw-you-at-his-apartment-door way, but in more of a John-Doe-just-let-you-know-your-wife’s-head-is-in-the-box way. And in my book, that counts for something. Sure I was going to retire, but I can’t now. This case needs me.
8.0Full of chocolate. Hmm, chocolate...
8.5Not porter, not stout Not cocoa, not caramel Slightly sour... Scratch!
6.5smooth taste. Very enjoyable. I would drink another one. It solidifies my desire to visit Troegs.
7.06.0
Light body like a normal stout, but boozey like I need a study beer to be to make it through a night of soil mechanics.
5.0Meh. After drinking the BBVD and SMS, this shit just couldn't even compete. Watery, with slight chocolate.
5.0It's ok, not as boozy as breakfast Stoudt. A little light on the finish.
6.0It's like 85% dark cocoa flavor that is creamy like melted chocolate w/ a roasty finish. Drinkable yet a burnt aftertaste that doesn't negatively affect beer. It's equally memorable with yards chocolate love stout id say.
7.0I love a good stout, especially Guinness on tap almost anywhere in the EU. So, this beer was pretty good. If you have to put chocolate in there, it was OK. Just a little hint of it is OK. Didn't have the head I would expect, but it was pretty cold and I didn't pour in the glass aggressively. I would drink another, but maybe not three at once!
7.0Solid stout variant from Troegs! Perfect chocolatey dessert for the season.
8.5Love the scratch series. This is no exception.
7.5Love the scratch series. This is no exception.
7.5Very solid stout!
8.0Good beer but for some reason I'm always a little bit disappointed by a chocolate stout. I like chocolate and I like beer so this should be a 10 every time, right? Wrong. Oh well, still tasty.
7.0If you're gonna call it chocolate, I wanna taste chocolate. And if you're gonna call it a stout, it oughta have some heft. This was a thin watery mess. Slight improvement as it warmed, but disappointing overall. You can go ahead and Scratch this right off the leaderboard.
5.07.0
Good balance of chocolate. I really enjoyed this one
6.0Pretty run of the mill. Has no stand out qualities or traits that make it stick in the mind or on the palette. Not bad but will be qucikly forgotten.
5.5Faint chocolate in the nose, and in the mouth. Not very viscous, just OK
5.5Exactly what I expected. Caramely and smooth with not much of a finish. The Scratch Series generic label has allowed Troegs to put the value of experimentation firmly in their marketing strategy and cultivated an inquisitive drinker to test their batches. I remember some good scratch in my day. 9.0 for creating a generic label that floats all flavors.
6.0Had it side-by-side with a Starr Hill Double Bass just for the hell of it. DB had a little better body, but I liked the chocolate flave of Troegs a little better. Pretty good offering.
6.0Had it side-by-side with a Starr Hill Double Bass just for the hell of it. DB had a little better body, but I liked the chocolate flave of Troegs a little better. Pretty good offering.
6.0One thing I've noticed is that people are using a lot of two and three letter pseudonyms, to acknowledge beers there belovingly referring to. It's safe to say I'm not the only one, I think bro Dan brought this up in his c3po reference in a recent view, but I honestly don't know what the f some of you guys are talking about. This beer was dry and I liked it.
8.0I told my son that this beer was made with chocolate and his eyes got real wide and said that he'd have some bc he likes anything with chocolate. Well he had some and he agreed that this beer "was gross!"
3.0My score is more a reflection of my favorable bias toward the stout style than the quality of this beer. Not enough chocolate, not enough body, not boozy -- and it didn't get any better as I let it warm up. But that said, I'd drink it again.
7.07.5
Very good, but most or all of the other Troeg scratches I have had since they started the series have been better.
7.5Look. We live in a time where words matter. I saw some reviews that called this beer "thin." I was like, "thin"? What the fuck does that mean? Then I poured it as my first FOB 2017 beer. I let it warm a little. Then I drank it. You know what? It was thin. I think thin means that every time you take a nice sip and expect to be inundated with some smooth tastes of chocolate or whatever other magical shit you are expecting, you just feel a little let down. Took a great picture of it, though.
7.0Paired deliciously with some thin mints. Subtle flavor but a decent stout
7.5A stout that actually tastes like a stout? That isn't 12% alcohol and so overly flavored that you can't remember if you are actually drinking beer? The insanity!
7.5This one did nothing for me. I didn't get much in the line of chocolate on the palate...missed the mark. Disappointing.
4.0A easy to Drink, perfectly balanced chocolate stout! What is not to like? Reports of this being too thin is just fake news
7.0Last year's FOB was my first intro to Troegs Scratch Series with an IPA that was outstanding. I need to get my hands on more of these beers. This was fantastic as well. Very smooth and the chocolate wasn't overwhelming. Very drinkable and you'd never know it was high abv. Really good stuff.
8.0Need more of a bite to balance out this one
6.0Smokey chocolate smoothness that I could drink anytime
8.07.5
Not as flavorful as I hoped but less strong than your typical stout. It was easy going down
6.0Cracked this beer while watching the USA Eagles play Uruguay on a cold Saturday afternoon. Trying my best to respect the "drink the FOB beer first" rule as I knew what the second half would lead to. And to be completely honest, I'd already consumed two Carlsbergs watching the 7:30AM Arsenal/Chelsea match. But that was over 6 hours ago - so I really think I'm legit. I really thought this beer would be in the bottom 6 of the case, but was pleasantly surprised. I mean - it is what it is - a chocolate stout. But I found it to be very smooth and with well rounded flavors. No sharp edges. Particularly at room temp which is the only way I can really taste these subtleties. Do I want a case? No. But did I enjoy this and would I order another? Sure. It's a 7.
7.0Wasn't expecting to like this, ended up loving it an wanting another
9.06.5
Good but not memorable.
7.5To quote Jan from the pink ladies"it's a dessert wine" very chocolatey and malty but pretty good Was easy to drink and didn't get overly sweet
7.5Paired deliciously with some thin mints. Subtle flavor but a decent stout
7.5Not a big stout fan, but I do appreciate this. Pretty damn smooth, nice smoky finish. Doesn't linger long enough. Maybe it isn't supposed to. What do I know? Unrelated, but Gerald Henderson can really kill a rally
8.0Troegs #262 Chocolate Stout Exactly what I expected. Conshihocken Type A IPA I like a lot of the Conshi brews. This one is solid. I think they have a particular unifying taste, maybe it's the water. Very excited about this magnificent case of beer. My main reviews will be about label designs, as I am currently designing for the competition. "Type A" 16 oz can is big, bold and consistent w others in the brand. Great use of exposed aluminum. The cheap plastic wrapper that Conshi uses should be illegal like plastic bags should. They render the can un-recyclable. Rating: 2 - for corporate irresponsibility. (The design is respectable however.)
7.0I'm not the biggest fan of stouts but the hint of chocolate helped me enjoy it more. I'd say this is decent.
6.5I really want to like troeg's. I remember trying my first nugget nectar at victory brewpub at citizens bank, opening day 2014. tasting the wonderful hop aroma by the outdoor gas fireplace, I thought this brewery had it going on. unfortunately if it doesn't say nugget nectar on the label its nothing special. Too much chocolate, too little complexity.
5.0Nice chocolate flavor - not too sweet with notes of malt and coffee.
8.5Creamy and Chocolate - pretty decent beer. Not. Nearly as good as the Weyerbacher
7.0Slight hint of chocolate, but not overpowering.
7.0Decent stout, but definitely a little week little week compared to the Morning Stout and Big Black Voodoo Daddy
6.5The Russian River damnation and the founders breakfast Stout from a few years ago single handedly changed my entire perspective on drinking stouts. Since then these have become my winter goto. Shit label, amazing beer. They must team up with Hershey on this. Fantastic Stout.
8.5My first ever FOB beer. Fairly straightforward here. Bittersweet chocolate. This reminds me of my annual trip to the Hershey lodge. Everything there has a cocoa backbone. Cocoa soap, cocoa shampoo, cocoa coffee. Late night wandering the labyrinth hotel, trying to find the Reeces pieces wing. Or am I staying in the Hershey kisses wing this year? Either way, it's chocolate. Wholesome, and wholly PA.
7.5Gets WAY better as it warms up.
7.5Chocolate is super subtle at first, but comes out more as it warms up. the hoppy bitterness almost tastes like coffee. I learned something today… I don’t like hops in my stouts.
6.0Feels thin. Almost a watered down whiskey taste. The chocolate definitely does't shine through. Not a terrible beer, but nothing stupendous, leaves a great aftertaste. Drinkable, especially while enjoying Phil Collins. I respect it, but I don't endorse it.
6.0This stout is good. Definite chocholate and coffee like flavor, but a little sweet. Kind of a thin feel. Noticable hops and a dry finish.
6.0This really works. Not dominated by any single attribute. Not a "meh" by any means. And that's after 10 beers at Lee's! FOB is a pleasure. Thanks for another great year Phil!
8.0Honestly, a bit too light for a chocolate stout. It has a good smell and good initial taste but that quickly disappears with the light consistency of the beer. It doesn't have the thickness that I crave in a stout.
5.0Meh. Not much chocolate. Just a standard stout. Expected more. Happy FOB day y'all.
4.0Liked the Scratch we had in last year's contest. This was a big ol' bottle of meh
5.0Every sign up for a 28 day challenge? Maybe even 2 contradicting 28 day challenges...maybe one was motivated by the pull of Domican weather in the clutches of winter but you dont want to feel like a bloated piece of milk-toast...Or one is motivated by your love of beer and the lure of 24 amazing beers in 28 days? Fitness and FOB go together like current wife and ex-wife! You know you are a FOB rookie when when you sign up for both! I signed up for the Weyerbacher Sunday Morning and the Troegs Scratch Series Chocolate Stout in one night and like 28 day challenges... ones comes out on top and the ither looks like a bitch attempt at a beer. Scratch lost this battle like memtrying tomride with Media in May. Not even close!
6.0Being born and raised in Hershey, it pains me to give any Troegs product such a mediocre score. Unfortunately this stout just tastes like watered down hot chocolate that has been left on the counter after a long day of sledding with the kids. My wife suggested I add some mini marshmallows. I may give that a try...it couldn't hurt.
5.5What a Wonderful start to FOB2017. So smooth. The chocolate was not overpowering but complemented the hops nicely.
8.5My first FOB beer/review!!! so glad to be here. Smooth to drink, little to know bitterness, which is missed. Nice chocolate aftertaste, but too sweet for my taste. Would not pass up in the future, but there would be many beers in front of it.
6.5As the saying goes...everything tastes better after a beer. Apparently, this holds true for Troeg's Chocolate Stout as well. A few weeks ago, I found a good beer hidden in a cooler full of Blue Moon. I had already had 2 Guiness, and the Troeg's chocolate stout went down like chocolate milk. After posting a picture on instagram and finding out it was going to be in the case, I was thrilled! While I still enjoyed this brew with a clear head, it was not nearly as enjoyable on its own. If you get the chance...I highly recommend enjoying a Guinness or two before imbibing in this stout.
7.0Remember that chocolate river from the Willy Wonka movies? The one with the creepy child molester. Or the other one with the creepy child molester. That what this beer was like. I was quite excited to drink it – it looked and smelled great – and then I realized after a sip that it was brown colored yuck some brewer or some Oompa Loompa peed in. That’s why it’s a one-off “scratch” beer!
5.5
